HELLO 2021

We think it’s the general consensus to say that we’ve never wanted to bid goodbye to a year quicker than 2020 and look forward to a new year. The year has been littered with devastations – the covid-19 pandemic being at the forefront of course. It’s been a year where people have had to be extra resilient, adapt to loneliness and not have expectations about anything. At The Monday Studio, whilst we embrace new beginnings and encourage everyone to reach for the stars, we know that everyone is feeling very burnt out from the past year. Hence why we want to brainstorm some thoughts about aspiration rather than resolutions with you this blog post. 


What is an aspiration? An aspiration is the hope or ambition to do something. 


What is a resolution? A resolution is a firm decision to do something. 


So what’s the difference? We think it’s in the origin of how an aspiration or resolution is born, and also how they play out. With an aspiration, it comes from a place of hope, with room to wriggle and be flexible so that when you don’t quite fulfil the aspiration in the set timeframe of 2021, you can be a little more easy-going. A resolution on the other hand, is rigid. If you fail to check off a resolution, don’t you sometimes feel really bad about it? That’s because in essence, a resolution is an expectation. Determination and drive are so important, but being kinder to ourselves in 2021, which we view as the year of recovery, takes priority. Let us have a look at some aspirational thoughts, which focus on nurturing your mind, body and spirit and specifically work on increasing your natural happy chemicals in the body!

Keeping ourselves cooped up at home in the spirit of social distancing out of consideration has made our bodies ‘achy break-y’ AKA you’re always so sore or tired. Get moving and exercising to get the blood circulation flowing and endorphins pumping! Endorphins are our bodies’ natural painkiller. Help yourself commit to being physically better by finding a way in which you enjoy exercising. Is it dance? Is it being in a studio class? Is it an outdoorsy activity with a loved one? What about joining a gym or getting to know a personal trainer? Whichever way you go, exercise is always a good idea and a consistent endorphin hit has been proven to assist with depression. Your body is powerful and magical so you should use it the right way!

What kind of humour do you have? What brings you joy? At TMS, the idea of your many laughing sessions would be music to our ears. Kind of like when mothers get extra elated when their bub is laughing. In a year that has really forced us to face matters “in the moment”, some of us have realised that we are not living in a way that we would like. Take it as an opportunity to reset your happiness mechanisms and commit to doing things that make you smile, giggle and laugh whether it’s because of joyous moments or because you’ve decided to tune into all the Netflix comedy specials. Laughing increases your natural endorphin levels as well! How good!

Nothing feels better than when you’re in the ‘zen zone’. When your mind is at ease, serotonin comes to say hello! What gives you a mental break? Some ways that people can achieve a mental break are through meditation, exercise, sun exposure and walking amongst nature. Make a commitment to take a break when you need it in 2021. Best work and best decisions come when you are zen and when you are feeling whole.

Oxytocin… the love hormone… Again, in light of the pandemic and when social distancing is super important, our oxytocin levels have collectively been at an all time low. Focus on loving and feeling loved is very much still possible in 2021. While you might not be able to physically touch each other as much, love can be communicated in a number of other ways! Have you heard of the five love languages? While ‘touch’ is quite difficult at the moment, the remaining four are definitely achievable. ‘Words of affirmation’? Easy. Give compliments. Voice your appreciation. ‘Quality time’? That’s what zoom parties are for! ‘Acts of service’? What can you do to help others? ‘Gifts’? What can you send to somebody’s place to treat or surprise them? Hello online shopping…

We must chase the end of the rainbow, with hopes to find a pot of gold. In literal terms, going after or for something with a reward or outcome in mind, is a fulfilling journey when you have finally achieved what you set yourself up for. Both the journey and the destination are gratifying and it’s gratifying because of hits of dopamine. When making your list of aspirations for 2021, we hope to see goals WITH rewards following. It’s time to get to know yourself and set goals effectively!

GLITTER

2020 was the year of our launch. Although difficult, we are extremely happy that Team TMS pulled through and have been enjoying both our big and small wins. We hope in 2021 to continue building a community, providing you with inspo-worth content and fabulous, forever pieces you’ll want to ‘add to cart’ immediately all whilst leaving a figurative trail of glitter every time we have encountered your day.
